ACI 307-95 - Major Revisions from ACI 307-88 and Latest Direction

The paper not only covers revisions incorporated in the current ACI 307
code, but also indicates the direction of revisions being considered for the next version.
The major changes to ACI 307-88 are:
Modified procedures for calculating cross-wind response
Deletion of the equivalent static force method for calculating seismic response
Requirements for precast concrete chimneys added
Requirements for non-circular chimneys added
Deletion of exceptions for "Small" chimneys
Provision of minimum wall thickness at openings added
For the future, the committee is considering the effect of the changes to wind loads in ASCE 7-95. Wind interference effects, the ductility of chimneys under seismic loads and changed thermal conditions (e.g. forced ventilation of airspaces) will also be addressed.
