This paper uses practical examples to show how reinforced concrete chimneys can be protected against degradation for several decades using appropriate coating systems. Careful selection of the coating material, combined with high quality application, should ensure the best result. Life is also dictated by the coating thickness applied, and its uniformity. Coatings with elastomer properties fulfil the most wide-ranging surface protection requirements for reinforced concrete.
